Condemned 84

Condemned 84 fue una de las bandas de la 'segunda ola' del Oi!, tras los 4 Skins, Cock Sparrer, Skrewdriver, the Cockney Rejects, Sham 69, Last Resort y demás. Esta banda siempre ha sido nacionalista, aunque nunca lo han reconocido en público debido a las consecuencias que le podía haber acarreado debido a la 'tolerancia' de los antifas. A continuación expondremos algunos datos sobre esta banda.
En primer lugar mencionaremos que varias de sus grabaciones fueron editadas por un sello RAC Aleman, Rock-o-Rama Records en concreto, los cuales vendieron bajo su sello los discos: 'Boots Go Marching In' en octubre de 1991 (RRR 111 en vinilo, RCD 143 en compact disc), 'Storming To Power' en enero de 1993 (RRR 134 en vinilo, RCD 180 en Cd ) y editaron en Cd 'Face the Aggression' en marzo de 1991 (RCD 129), que había sido publicado originalmente publicado en vinilo por otro Grade 1 Records. Aunque después cambiaron de discográfica; también podemos hacer referencia a alguna de sus letras, que si bien siguen un tono general de corte 'apolítico' podemos encontrar cosas interesantes tales como:

Can you introduce all the band members?
Kev- vocals, Gunk - bass, Baysey - Giutar, Wayne -drums

Condemned 84 started it´s way across England back in 1984, how was the situation for the band at that time?
At this time many of the main Oi! bands had called it a day. It was really hard to get gigs, skinheads were banned from nearly everywhere. Money we got from gigs was poor as we were bottom of the bill supporting Intensive Care, Vicious Romours, Exploited etc. We were lucky to get £10 a night between 4 of us! But we had to start somewhere. After our first record release we headlined everywhere.

That was obviously a hard time for the band. What´s your opinion about the new Oi! bands?
It´s always been hard since we started, we always did everything ourselves, nobody promoted us. We like all skin/Oi groups political or not . I wouldn´t say we listen to all of them but a lot of them.

When can we expect a gig in Germany?
We´ve never played in Germany, we really wanted to in the days of early Böhse Onkelz (curiosamente en sus comienzos Böhse Onkelz era una banda NS)   but nobody would give us a gig! We don´t really know if we have that much support in Germany, maybe if we get offered a gig we´ll consider it.

Perhaps you know that Germans like to drink beer (hiick!), whats your favourite beer?
The best beer in England is what I drink. Hahahaha! Light and bitter!

What do you know about the German skinhead scene?
We listen to alot of German Oi! and political bands! There are many bands and record-labels around now which is obviously very good for the skinhead movement.

Segun GMM Records organizadores de las ''Beer Olympics'' en Atlanta, Condemned 84 se negó a actuar en su festival dado que tendrían que compartir cartel con 'The Templars' y 'Oxblood' bandas que cuentan con negros (perdon, Afroamericanos) en sus filas... Por otra parte tambien ha salido a relucir que el 16-12-2000 dieron un concierto en el Veneto, Italia; y este pasado verano tambien actuaron en Verona, Italia, en un concierto (en el que estaba previsto que actuase también Ultima Thule, aunque finalmente esta banda no participó) organizado por el 'Veneto Fronte Skinhead' conocida organización NS...

Lo que viene a decir que cambien el orden de actuación para no tocar junto a los Templars, ya que si tocan junto a una banda con miembros negros ya no podrán tocar en ninguna otra parte ¿?. Es decir que sus seguidores tienen 'prejuicios raciales', ¡vaya! ¿para que tipo de público tocan? ¿no eran apolíticos? Ahora se preocupan de la posible reacción de sus 'tolerantes' fans... ¿ O acaso serian los organizadores de conciertos los que no les contratasen por haberse mezclado con personas de color? 26 July '01   Condemned 84 refused to share the stage with black musicians?!
Condemned 84 always had right-wing ideas and  symphaties (see their attacks on communists and homosexuals, their stands pro-capital punishment and their  records on Rock-o-Rama, as examples), but their recent italian gig openly booked by the nazi organization Veneto Fronte Skinhead was a surprise for many people, and even for me; anyway what's worst in this whole story is the fact that when - outside Italy - they were asked about this compromising gig they've claimed that no nazi was present at the event ...
(solo tenian que fijarse un poco en los parches y camisetas del publico...) They have no problem to play in gigs booked by nazis, but they refuse to play with reds ... If this isn't a  political affiliation it's enough close to it to say that C-84 have chosen a side to stand for... This story seems to have an ideal following: you probably know the 'Beer Olympics' booked every year by GMM Records (label owned by Mark Noah from the Anti-Heroes) featuring old and new oi! & streetpunk acts;well, GMM just put out a statement disgusted by the fact  that C-84, who were on the bill, will not play as they refuse to share the stage with black musicians (Templars and Oxblood), and also with Pressure Point, although C-84 seem to have more  problems with the last ones. The only denial I'm aware of is from the unofficial site of  Retaliator (a band sharing some members with Condemned 84, and quite busy with the same old revisionism on our roots so loved by boneheads: ska wasn't skinhead music, even a racist can be a skin, etc...), where you can read that the refuse to play is due to the bad booking of the event and that the behaviour of Mark Noah has to do with his jealousy for the C-84 ...

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CONDEMNED 84 REGARDING CANCELLATION OF U.S. TOUR DATES.
Comunicado oficial de Condemned 84, donde viene a decir que no les querian pagar los billetes de avión, no les habian dicho cuándo tenian que tocar con anticipación; y que todo es un montaje para que pareciese que ellos no querian tocar y no tener que reintegrar asi la organización el importe de las entradas.

1.The organiser would not pay flights for 4 persons. They would also only pay for flights upfront if Condemned paid them back with payment from the "Beer Olympics" show. This wouldn't have covered 4 persons flights, so money would have had to be paid out of the next show. Condemned found this unethical.
2.The organiser asked Condemned to fly in on the Friday, play "Beer Olympics" on the Saturday, and then fly home on the Sunday. Flights paid by the organiser, but only one gig! Condemned considered this unethical also.
3.No dates were sent to the band in advance, all dates were known to the band via another web site found by chance!
4.Once Condemned had cancelled US dates, the organiser knew that people who had bought tickets in advance for "Beer Olympics" would want refunds for the Saturday night (the evening C84 were due to play) so the organiser covered himself by making an excuse to make it look like C84 had been cancelled by him!

  Y aprovechando que se les ha mencionado hablaremos de 'The Templars', que también tuvieron cierta polemica al realizar versiones de las canciones de Skrewdriver  "Backstreet kids" y "Back With A Bang" ( Anti Heros tambien realizó una versión de "Antisocial") aunque ellos argumentan que esas canciones son de los inicios de la banda, y que formaban parte de albumes cuyas letras no eran todavia abiertamente políticas. Aparte de esto hemos podido ver en una foto suya en un concierto, que tienen en la pared un poster de los Skrewdriver... "Backstreet kids" es del año 1977, del albúm 'All skrewed up', pero con 'Back With A Bang' del año 1982 ya es menos claro el carácter no político de la banda por aquellas fechas, Ian Stuart ya llevaba 3 años afiliado al NF; llevaba camisetas 'Lealistas' en los conciertos y saludaba brazo en alto, y como muestra, un fragmento de la cancion 'Back With A Bang': « Being patriotic’s not the fashion so they say, to fly your country’s flag’s a crime»"Ellos dicen que ser patriota no es la moda, que ondear la bandera de tu pais es un crimen'') Además, no tienen más que comprar el libro titulado 'Punk, and then what?' donde aparece una foto de los Skrewdriver del año 1977 , cuando eran etiquetados como banda punk, con las ropas plagadas de esvásticas...

De 'The Templars', tambien podemos comentar que su cantante decia en una entrevista para 'Gang up zine' que le encantaban los KLAN y los PRIMERA LINEA (¿? ) entre otros grupos Ns...
Desde aqui recomendamos encarecidamente a esta banda que no juegue con fuego, que ya se sabe como se las gastan sus amiguitos sharps y redskins a la hora de arruinar carreras por presuntos vínculos fascistas. Aunque el tener un  bateria negro les da cierta inmunidad, cualquier otra banda ya habria sido señalada y marginada...
A continuacion unos fragmentos de entrevistas con 'The Templars'

-You are not a White Power band. How the hell did you get that stigma?
 Why? Every motherfucker in this world who is a skinhead knows what the fuck early Skrewdriver is. We just had the balls to play the shit live. But all these motherfuckers knew the lyrics...

-Do you put your personal politics in the music and how doyou feel about left/rightwing skinheads? Is the skinhead lifestyle really so unpolitical some claim it to be?
I am not that political so i hope that our music aren't that infected by political ideas. I don't think politics have something to do with the Skinhead movement. I can't answer that last question, I don't really know, for me it is unpolitical.

-What do you think about the commie-hate that, especially american skinheads, seem to have?
I don't take part in any political things but I think The commie-hate thing have became a fashion in Europe. The
Americans have been born with the commie-hate so It's hard to  think in other ways I think.

- Finally, could you list your five favourite records of all time?
Oh it's hard to say but I will try.

Combat 84

Combat 84 fue otro grupo de la 'segunda ola' de bandas Oi! de los primeros años 80, si bien esta banda desde el principio se declaro anticomunista y siempre tuvieron un gran número de seguidores entre los Skinheads NS. Cabe destacar que los Combat 84 en entrevistas hablan muy bien de Ian Stuart y, aunque no compartían muchas de sus ideas, le consideraban un hombre "honorable y noble..." , cosa que  también hacia en una entrevista reciente Pat, cantante de los 'Straw Dogs', y que ahora toca en una banda llamada 'Super Yob', el cual afirmaba que Skrewdriver fue la primera banda auténticamente skinhead y que Ian Stuart fue un hombre honesto y noble que creía en sus ideales... Ademas los miembros de los Straw Dogs eran amigos de los skins Ns londinenses...

La grabación de su primera maqueta en la que se incluian 2 temas: "Soldier" y "Combat 84", y la ayuda de Gary Hitchcock, manager de los 4 Skins, hizo que se fijara en ellos Martin Hooker, el jefe de la discográfica 'Secret Records', en la cual estaban por aquella época los 4-Skins, los Business, The Exploited, y los Infa Riot; sin embargo  'Secret Records' no les fichó debido a el rumor que existia sobre el pasado ultraderechista de Chris "Chubby" Henderson, cantante original de la banda... Finalmente ficharon para Victory Records, que editó dos singles suyos. Los Combat 84 recibían continuos ataque desde la prensa musical, por lo cual Chubby Chris tuvo que aclarar cuales eran sus 'puntos de vista' políticos. A pesar de esto las criticas continuaron, agudizadas por las peleas que se producían en sus conciertos. El remate fue cuando la banda apareció en un documental y el cantante hizo algún comentario racista, lo que provoco que los conciertos que tenían ya fijados se suspendiesen.  Por estos motivos el distribuidor de  Victory Records no tenia muchas expectativas en el exito del LP de debút de los Combat 84, lo cual unido a la presión de la prensa musical y de algunas tiendas de música, tuvo como consecuencia que Victory Rec. editara un álbum de la banda con una calidad que dejaba mucho que desear, ya que incluia grabaciónes en directo y temas de estudio que no eran definitivos, pero lo más curioso es que Victory Rec le vendió la licencia de este disco al sello RAC alemán  "Rock-O-Rama", para que lo editaran ellos, con lo que el Lp de debut de la banda no se edito en el Reino Unido....

Dadas las adversas circunstancias el grupo se disolvió al poco tiempo, para resurgir años más tarde.  Chubby Chris abandonó el negocio de la música y rehizo su vida como 'hooligan' del Chelsa un equipo del Oeste de Londres, ( hay que destacar los vinculos de este grupo hooligan con la organización neonazi 'Combat 18' ) e incluso escribió un libro titulado WHO WANTS IT? junto a Colin Ward donde contaba sus "hazañas" en los campos de futbol, como cuando fue llevado a juicio en 1987 tras una operación de agentes policiales infiltrados... John Fisher formo junto a varios ex-Last Resort la banda " The Warriors", y despues se unió a una banda de Heavy metal llamada "April 19th". Deptford John y Jim se unieron a los U.K.Subs.  Aqui podeis leer algunas de sus letras, con temas contra el comunismo, a favor de la pena de muerte para los terroristas y violadores, contra los 'pasteleros'...; y ' podeis ver una foto de un concierto suyo con una gran bandera del Reino Unido en la pared, aunque como ya hemos mencionado en Inglaterra es muy común el uso de esta bandera por parte de los grupos musicales de punk y Oi!
La frase más 'polemica' de sus letras fue esta " it's better to be dead than fucking Red! ", segun ellos querian denunciar la intolerancia que se cometia en los paises comunistas, y más concretamente en la URSS, contra los que no pensaban lo mismo que el Partido Comunista en el poder.
Hace un par de años la banda se volvio a juntar, pero sin su cantante original.

The Last Resort

Los Last Resort fueron una de las primeras bandas Oi!, alla por 1981, y desde el principio los antifascistas les criticaron por su letras de corte patriótico y sobre 'violencia gratuita'. Incluso las canción 'Soul Boys' fue censurada en la edicion original debido a que se considero que tenia cierto componente racista. No pretendemos decir que eran NS, simplemente que eran nacionalistas y estaban orgullosos de su pais, al contrario que la ralea que se dice 'heredera de la verdadera esencia del Oi!'

Una banda  Oi! inglesa con claros vínculos con el Ns fueron los Close Shave ; el batería de Close Shave solía portar insignias de cruces célticas y puños blancos, y el guitarrista, Dirk, tocó posteriormente en la banda Ns Razors Edge, para pasar luego a otra banda Ns, English Rose... Además en 1993 participaron en el concierto "Konigs Wuterhausen" , en Alemania, junto a  Razors Edge, Boots Brothers y Brutal Haie; ese mismo año tocaron en Prieros, Brandenburgo, junto a las bandas Frontal, Brutale Haie y Elbstrum...
También aparecieron en un recopilatorio titulado 'Last Chance', publicado por la discografica 'especializada' en grupos RAC Rebelles Europeens [Aunque esta discografíca también publicó el disco 'Ci Incontreremo Ancora' de los antifascistas italianos Klasse Kriminale (RE331990)... ]  en el que figuraban las siguientes bandas: British Standard; Close Shave; Grade One; English Rose; Razor's Edge; Paul Burnley & The 4th Reich (RE333792)
