CARNIVORE

Esta banda empezo su carrera en el año 1983, en Brooklyn, Nueva York,  tuvo cierta repercusión dentro de la escena trash metal / hardcore de los Estados Unidos y se disolvio a finales de los 80. Hoy en dia poca gente recordaria a esta banda si no fuese porque en ella tocaba Peter Steele, el cantante de la conocida banda de metal Type-O-Negative, y por las 'controvertidas' canciones que interpretaban. Su papel en Carnivore era el de bajista y cantante, amén de lider de la banda.
En el año 1985 publicaron en vinilo su primer disco titulado 'Carnivore', este disco incluia un dibujo en el libreto interior del disco donde se representaba un concierto de la banda, en el que varios de sus asistentes llevaban camisetas y brazaletes con un 'triskel', el símbolo usado por los 'afrikaners' supremacistas blancos de sudafrica pro-apartheid [Afrikaner Resistance Movement / Afrikaner Weerstands Beweging (AWB)]... Un dibujo que no aparecia en el reedición en compacto del disco y que pueden ver aqui...

Al poco tiempo Peter Steele formó la banda Type-O-Negative. El primer disco de los Type-O-Negative, 'Slow, Deep and Hard', se publicó en 1991 y en el también se veia el peculiar 'sello' de Peter Steele en alguna letras 'incorrectas', especialmente en 'Der Untermensch' ,una canción que trataba sobre los yonkies y la gente sin trabajo, a los que les decian: 'Why don't you get a job ... Get off society's back ... You're a waste of life ... Send you back to where you're from.'
Los rumores basandose en su pasado en Carnivore y en fragmentos de entrevistas, empezaron a perjudicar a Pater Steele y su banda. En una de las primeras giras que hicieron por Europa casi todas las actuaciones en Alemania y Austria tuvieron que ser canceladas debido a las amenazas, avisos de colocación de bombas y manifestaciones de activistas antifascistas. En la ciudad alemana de Enschede un representante de la alcaldia les dijo a los dueños de la sala donde estaba previsto que se celebrase el concierto que solo lo autorizaban si estaban presentes dos expertos juridicos para estudiar las letras de la banda e interrumpir el concierto si fuese necesario, en linea con la política de la 'Oficina para la Defensa de la Constitución' que se encarga de vigilar a los grupos neo-nazis. En Amsterdam la sala donde tenian previsto tocar sufrió un sabotaje.
Todo esto era muy perjudicial para la banda, asi que en su tercer albúm, 'Bloody Kisses', publicado en 1993, incluyeron una canción de una sola linea que decia 'Kill all the white people, then we'll be free', con un coro de voces negras, y otra cancion titulada 'We Hate Everyone' donde se decia 'The left they say I'm a facist
The right calling me communist,Hate-hate-hate-hatred for all - one and all, No matter what you believe'

Aun asi las 'sospechas' no disminuyeron, en una de su giras les acompañaron como teloneros los Motley Crue, que todavia no eran muy famosos, y pensaron que el acompañar a una banda 'controvertida' les daria publicidad. En uno de los conciertos los Motley Crue sacaron como decoración unas esvastícas que daban vueltas, al estilo de un molinillo, con los que las acusaciones de ser un fascista sobre Peter Steele de los Type-O-Negative, se volvieron a repetir. El propio Peter Steele decia en una entrevista que 'puede que los Montley Crue sacaran esas esvásticas por que ellos pensaban que de ese modo se sentian como si fuesen colegas de los Type-O-Negative, y al tener Peter Steele tan mala reputación la prensa se les echaría encima
preguntando que demonios era aquello, y conseguirian asi publicidad gratis'...
En el año 1994 los Carnivore se volvieron a juntar para hacer unas cuantas giras.

En fin, el tal Peter Steele es todo un 'personaje', además de acusarle de ser racista y fascista, también se le acuso de ser un machista incorregible, por las canciones de su etapa en Carnivore como: 'Male Supremacy', 'Sex and Violence' y otras de los Type-O-Negative donde hablaba sobre ex-novias adulteras, mujeres prostituyendose para sus amantes drogadictos, etc... aunque para mejorar su 'imagen' entre las feminas en el año 1996 posó desnudo para la revista 'Playgirl'.

The flag for Vinnland, or more precisely "the people's technocratic republic of Vinnland" appears on the back of the tree latest albums of the Goth-Rockgroup Type O Negative as well on numerous t-shirts. The flag is supposed to symbolize the republic of Vinnland situated in north America. Vinnland and it's flag are the brain child of the hulking blackhaired frontman of the band Type O Negative: Peter Steele. Steele incorporated his idea's of paganism, left/right wing political flirtations and his own heritage (his mother was part Icelandic) into a concept of a repubic named after the first name the Vikings gave to north America: Vinland. The Vikings landed in New Foundland around 1000 a.d. and built a colony there.Steele takes this idea and tries to imagine what America would be like if the Vikings had actualy stayed, and built a civilisation there. Based on that he designed a new flag in a scandinavian cross patern and gives it his favorite colours: green, black and white (which coincedently remind me of the german war cross). The concept of the people's technocratic republic only apears once in the songtitle "The glorious liberation of the people's tecnocratic republic of Vinnland by the combined forces of the united territories of Europa". In one of his interviews Steele says that he thinks the world would be better off if it were governed by scientists, hence technocratic. for more information see here

However, they did not call that land "Vinnland" but Vinland. It is thought that the name came from the presence of currants ("vinbär" in modern Swedish), not of a supposed presence of vine or grapes.

Esta banda también tiene un par de letras un tanto incorrectas, unas de las más conocidas es 'Angel of Death', que en su época causo un gran revuelo al considerarse una alabanza del Doctor Mengele.
En nuestra opinión, más que una canción pro-Ns es una canción destinada a dar una imagen de maldad, y no tanto a glorificar. Por otra parte esta letra seria más propia de unos "hollywood nazis" ya que habla de holocausto, torturas etc, lo que está en contradicción con las teorias revisionistas que gran parte de los Ns comparten. 'Blood Red' trata acerca de la represión en las dictaduras comunistas. 'Guilty of Being White' es una version de un grupo hardcore llamado 'Minor threat'  eran de Whashington D.C de principios de los 80 y el significado de la cancion no es tanto de orgullo blanco sino de anti-wigger (wigger = white + nigger) todos los blancos 'progresistas' que van de medio negros y que incluso se sienten culpables por el esclavismo etc, etc, etc... Otra cosa a tener en cuenta de esta banda es que en varias camisetas y sudaderas suyas aparece un calavera que luce un casco de las Waffen SS y aqui abajo podeis ver una bandera con un aguila muy similar a la del III Reich; su club oficial de fans se llama "Slaytanic Wehrmacht", el guitarrista Jeff Hanneman colecciona medallas de la epoca del III Reich, solia llevar una cruz de hierro y un aguila imperial alemana en su chaqueta y de vez en cuando pegatinas nazis en sus guitarras, lo cual se puede ver en la foto de más abajo, que es una postal del grupo; y las simpatias del grupo por el Partido Republicano son bastante conocidas...  ¿ Provocadores o NacionalSocialistas...? Más bien lo primero.
